Peter Wehling studied philosophy, political science and history in Munich, Marburg and Frankfurt/Main. He holds a PhD in political science as well as habilitation in sociology. After working at various universities and academic institutions, since 2001 he is senoir researcher at the University of Augsburg. From 2001 to 2009 he has been a member of the collaborative research center (“Sonderforschungsbereich”) "Reflexive Modernization" (Munich / Augsburg). In addition, he directed (together with Stefan Böschen und Jens Soentgen) the research project “Scientific Cultures of Non-Knowledge” (“Nichtwissenskulturen”) which has been funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from 2003 to 2007. Since July 2009 he is directing the research project “Participatory Governance of Science” which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research from 2009 to 12/2013. During the winter term 2006/07, he has been interim professor of Sociology at the University of Augsburg, whereas during the winter term 2007/08 he has been visiting professor of sociology of science at the University of Bielefeld.
His main research interests are sociology of science and technology, sociology of knowledge (incl. sociology of ignorance), social theory, sociology of health and illness, environmental sociology. Peter Wehling is also co-editor of the series “Science and Technology Studies” (“Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung”), published by Nomos, Baden-Baden (Germany).
